The Gas Safety Forum has the operational oversight on safety issues. It is a strategic industry group and is made up of all the key players, including the Gas Association, LPG Association, GUI, Master Plumbers and the PG&D Board. Officials from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs’ Energy Safety also attend the forum.
Under the new legislation, the Forum will be a pivotal body of representatives who will manage the industry’s interests under a self-regulated performance-based environment. It will report on industry performance, and review industry needs. In addition to reporting to the regulator, it will also have industry compliance auditing functions, especially in the safety and competence area.
The Forum’s focus is at a high level and consequently, it has been involved in a range of gas and ancillary issues. Recently these have included the outcome of decisions regarding indoor and outdoor air quality from gas installations, and it has also pressured Energy Safety to review and redesign the appliance self-declaration scheme.
