This section looks at the natural gas industry – from well-head through the transmission and distribution of gas through the network of pipelines throughout the North Island.
It provides a comprehensive digest of statistics, data, maps, and information as well as links to other useful sites.
Gas Flows
Natural gas is the fuel of choice for industrial, commercial, institutional and domestic users in the North Island of New Zealand.
Gas is reticulated through networks of pipelines from wells, such as Kapuni.
The recently announced increase in the Maui reserves, the developments at both Pohokura and Kupe and the recent gas find at Turangi-1 mean that consumers can be confident there is plenty of gas for the foreseeable future for the domestic, commercial and industrial markets on the reticulated network.
The diagram below shows how gas flows from the wellhead through the reticulated network into homes, restaurants, hospitals, schools, hotels and businesses throughout the North Island.
