Contingency Planning

Pandemic Planning

An influenza pandemic occurs when a new strain of influenza virus emerges, spreading around the world and infecting many people at once.

In the event of a pandemic the gas industry would work with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Civil Defence and other Government agencies to ensure continuing safe supplies of gas.

For more information on pandemic planning please go to the Ministry of Health website.

For a range of information designed for general use in pandemic planning by businesses and other organisations or to view the Information Kit designed to aid continuity planning by infrastructure providers please go to the Ministry of Economic Development website.

For the Civil Defence Emergency Management planning guide for pandemic influenza please click here.

The guide provides reference material and a checklist on pandemic influenza and a framework upon which more detailed planning may be based. It also provides a tool that may be used to delegate responsibilities and monitor progress as the plan is developed.

For more information on the National Civil Defence Emergency Management Plan please go to the CDEM ACT page.
