Solar and Gas Powered Systems
Natural gas is now providing the answer to the perennial problem faced during cold and sunless days by advocates of solar powered water heating.
It’s common sense really. If the heat provided free every day by the sun could be captured and used to heat water in our homes, restaurants and hotels we’d all enjoy lower water heating bills. That’s what makes solar hot water such an attractive idea.
While during the summer hot water can be heated virtually every day, the problem is that there is insufficient sun on overcast days and in the winter to provide sufficient hot water. Also, there are times when the sun can not provide enough heat fast enough to manage heavy demand for hot water.
New technology using gas to boost solar powered water heating systems is now available commercially. This means that when the sun doesn’t shine natural gas provides the necessary heat to ensure continuous hot water on the darkest day.
Gas flow hot water units linked to solar panels mean enjoying the best of both worlds: a guaranteed endless supply of hot water- and all the environmental benefits of solar heated water.
Water heating is the largest user of electricity in most homes but using free energy from the sun can meet up to 70% or more of hot water requirements. When combined with a boost from natural gas a solar / gas hot water solution will provide big savings over time.
