To be recognised and valued by members, the energy sector, political and media sectors, and other stakeholder organisations, as the leading natural gas advocacy body for addressing safety & performance, gas awareness & growth, influence & representation and information sharing.

Strategic Intent

Provide a proactive forum to identify and resolve technical issues impacting on the gas industry

Delivery mechanisms

  • Develop measures to ensure safety and risk issues are identified and addressed upstream and downstream of the meter.
  • Maintain a flexible work programme that enables collective and prompt action on agreed issues and their resolution.

Co-operate with all relevant, interested parties across the entire gas industry value chain

Delivery mechanisms

  • Work closely with ES and GIC to ensure the best outcomes for the gas industry and GANZ members, with a particular focus on safety and compliance issues.
  • Provide a central contact point into the industry for all government and industry stakeholders.
  • Provide consistent mesasges about the industry and ensure consultation with members is well co-ordinated.

Strategic Intent

Ensure regulators, policymakers and the public perceive the gas industry to be safe, effective and credible, in line with New Zealand’s legislative safety structure

Facilitate a regulatory framework that requires minimum government intervention and contributes to lowest effective compliance costs for members while encouraging best business practice

Delivery mechanisms

  • Lead the development of the Safety Management Systems Framework and devise a work programme to support its implementation by members.
  • Define and endorse minimum standards and best practice for: gas safety protocols; gas related standards; competency levels; contingency planning.
  • Collate key industry safety and compliance data for GANZ members, government departments and other stakeholders.
  • Gain acceptance by industry authorities that appropriate levels of risk management delivering competence, compliance and auditable – credible outcomes are demonstrated.

Ensure there is appropriate knowledge and appreciation of gas among all relevant stakeholder groups, and contribute to growing the New Zealand natural gas market for the benefit of GANZ members

Delivery mechanisms

  • Develop information packs of generic data to raise awareness of gas and all its benefits among all relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide information and support services that enhance the image of gas and position it in the market as a premium ‘fuel of choice’.
  • Work with all gas sector interests to implement initiatives that improve penetration rates and enhance the market share of gas.

Foster a forward-focused and progressive membership that works collaboratively in the best long-term interests of the gas industry and the Gas Association

Delivery mechanisms

  • Provide all relevant data to support and further members’ interests.
  • Retain members and attract new members by identifying and providing services that add value to the membership experience, encourage loyalty to GANZ and facilitate industry-focused outcomes.
